JCI Welcomed on traditional Boonerwrung land
The Cross and Icon travelled to Mornington Peninsula on Wednesday 7 May, reaching Sullivan’s Bay early in the morning for a sunrise Dawn Service on the site of the First Colonial Settlement in Port Phillip Bay, 1804.
The Cross and Icon brought the wealth of love and support it has received from the Melbourne events to the picturesque beachside location offering local parishioners an intimate moment with the Cross and Icon.
On traditional Boonerwrung land the site was welcomed by young and old as each person had a silent, private moment with the Cross. The location provided a peaceful, restful and scenic backdrop to the beauty of the Cross. A prayerful moment of reflection was shared by all with a sunlit opportunity for veneration.
The Cross was then processed up a winding path along Sullivan Bay towards St Mary’s Church up on the hill overlooking Port Phillip Bay. Parishioners, teachers and students from St Mary’s parish and St Joseph’s Primary School gathered in the beautiful church with Oblate Fr Christian Fini for Mass. Fr Fini spoke of the incredible distances the Cross has travelled in it’s 24 year journey around the globe and how the symbol of our Lord Jesus unifies the spirit of all who encounter it.
"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses" (acts 1:8)
